Manufacturing Renaissance to be the Key Factor Shaping the Indian Economy: Echo Indian Manufacturers, notes Frost & Sullivan

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Thursday, December 26, 2013 -- (Business Wire India) -- Developing solutions 'For India in India' is as much the need of the hour, as is keeping pace with the rapid advancements in global manufacturing techniques. Manufacturing renaissance is an important aspect that can potentially contribute to the increase in contribution of manufacturing sectors toward India's gross domestic product (GDP) growth.

The manufacturing sector is likely to witness a healthy growth over the next two to three years, which is in contrast to the current scenario of declining manufacturing share in total GDP. According to Frost & Sullivan's analysis, the recent dip (2012-13) can be considered as a temporary phenomenon because the fundamentals defining Indian manufacturing growth story are quite strong.

The National Manufacturing Policy (NMP) is likely to be one of the key drivers. While there is a concern on investment slowdown, Frost & Sullivan's analysis indicates that Indian manufacturers are focused on operational excellence improvements, which are a key to manufacturing renaissance.

The push toward making the Industrial corridors a reality, increasing urbanization, rise in working age population, and focus on smart factory are some of the Mega Trends that could potentially drive manufacturing renaissance. The increasing per capita expenditure and penetration of assets spanning urban and rural household demonstrate the strong fundamentals that support India's manufacturing story.

The Industrial Automation and Process Control Practice of Frost & Sullivan recently concluded its annual forum "Enhancing Manufacturing Competitiveness: New Age Solutions Driving Change" on Discrete Automation and Process Automation in Mumbai. The Discrete Automation event was followed by an awards banquet that witnessed industry's best-in-class companies being recognized with Frost & Sullivan's Excellence in Industrial Technologies Awards, India.

Niju V, Director, Automation & Electronics Practice, Frost & Sullivan said, "The key requirement is the need to shift from "Value for Money" to "Value for Many" business models. Indian end users demand quality and relevant features customized to their needs and not a product with stripped down features at low cost. Several solution providers have recognized this requirement and are already focused on developing products for India in India. An added benefit is the market beyond India in countries as far as Africa that may ultimately share similar requirements".

"The two-day deliberations and discussions have clearly demonstrated the readiness of Indian industrial customers toward adopting best-in-class solutions that could drive change," added Niju V. He also said that in order to capitalize on these opportunities, the suppliers should work toward winning end-user confidence on their ability to address their unique needs.

"Solution to India's forex problems is not in running after more US dollars but by excelling Indian manufacturing through Continuous innovation", said Mr. K. Nandakumar, President, Automation Industry Association (AIA). He added that in order to convert the customers' craze for imported products to domestic solutions, ensuring impeccable quality is a must.

Commenting on the key requirements for enhancing India's manufacturing competitiveness, Mr. S. Sriram, General Manager, Marketing, Mitsubishi Electric India Private Ltd. said, "The Indian manufacturing sector is facing unprecedented challenges owing to domestic and global environment. Driving toward enhanced quality and productivity is an inevitable need, which the Indian manufacturing sector needs to achieve to leap into the top league in the shortest possible time. Manufacturing sector will best be served by adopting the presently available highly effective solutions, which can enable best practices and have clear return on investment metrics."

The two-day event focused on sharing best practices and ideas on how to leverage innovative technologies and best-in-class solutions as a resource to address evolving challenges and equip the manufacturing sector for the future.

Automation Industry Association supported the event as an Industry Association Partner, while the Vision Partner was Mitsubishi Electric India Private Limited. Media Partners supporting the event were, A&D India, Automation Excellence, MMI, and Process India.

H.E. President Pranab Mukherjee Receives Biography of Dr Prathap Chandra Reddy
"Healer: Dr Prathap Chandra Reddy and the Transformation of India" by Pranay Gupte

Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, Thursday, December 26, 2013 -- (Business Wire India) -- President Pranab Mukherjee was presented a copy of the biography on Dr. Prathap Chandra Reddy at Rastrapati Nilayam today.

The 600-page biography, "Healer: Dr. Prathap Chandra Reddy and the Transformation of India," is authored by Pranay Gupte, veteran international journalist, biographer and historian and published by Penguin, the world's largest publisher. The book was two years in the making, and its publication comes on the occasion of Dr. Reddy's 80th birthday, and the 30th anniversary of the founding of Apollo Hospitals.

In presenting the book to President Mukherjee, Dr. Reddy - Founder and Chairman of Apollo Hospitals - noted that Mr. Mukherjee has long been associated with encouraging the growth of India's healthcare sector.

"Pranab Mukherjee recognized the urgent need to transform healthcare in our country," Dr. Reddy said.

"The President - along with the late Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi - has long believed that a society's health affects its productivity," Dr. Reddy said. "Not only Apollo Hospitals but the entire corporate sector has been the beneficiary of his foresight, and his strong belief that healthcare is a vital component of sustainable economic development in emerging countries such as India."

The biography traces Dr. Reddy's improbable journey from Aragonda to medical school in Madras to a flourishing cardiology practice in the United States. At the age of 50, Dr Reddy returned to India at the behest of his father in order to make a contribution to his homeland. Recognizing that healthcare in India was delivered mainly by government hospitals and philanthropic institutions that lacked proper facilities, Dr. Reddy set out to establish Apollo Hospitals, a pioneer in the corporate sector. By bringing world-class equipment and best practices, and by persuading Indian doctors living abroad to come home again, Dr. Reddy succeeded in creating what has now become Asia's foremost medical system. Apollo holds world records in heart, lung, kidney and other organ surgeries and transplants.

"Dr. Reddy transformed the healthcare landscape of India," author Gupte says, noting that his research showed that Apollo has served more than 37 million people through its 54 facilities in the last 30 years.

The formal launch of the book will take place in several cities over the next few weeks, including in New Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and elsewhere. Launches will also be held in London and New York, since "Healer" will also be available in global markets soon. The biography is now available at bookstores and airports across India.

Excerpts from the biography have started appearing in a number of Indian and foreign publications.

Asia's Biggest Leaders in Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare to Meet in Mumbai to Discuss Policy Reforms at Pharmaleaders Historic 6th Annual Pharmaceutical Leadership Summit and Business Leadership Awards 2013

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Thursday, December 26, 2013 -- (Business Wire India) -- Pharma Companies & Doctors need to widen the gap of meaningful dialogue in scientific & medical communications. Ethics in Medical Profession is key to sustainable growth & innovation - Satya Brahma

Pharmaleaders 2013 annual & historic platform 6th Annual Pharmaceutical Leadership Summit & Business Leadership Awards 2013 organized by Network 7 Media Group's Pharmaleaders, Asia's most analytical healthcare media will raise the issue of greater interaction, meaningful interaction & dialogue between the Indian Medical Practitioners & the drug makers in the branded formulation market said Satya Brahma Chairman & Editor-In-Chief of Pharmaleaders. Of late we have seen the widening gap of interaction in the form of updating clinical & medical communications to the Doctors by the Pharma Companies leading to the erosion of values in medical profession. Traditionally the standard practice of detailing to the doctors has been to update the doctors by the pharma companies through communication materials such as visual ads, product informations, new & research product launches. Doctors look at Medical Representatives as the tool to update their knowledge in latest breakthrough in medical research & look at the Pharma Companies as the reliable partner of their medical practice who reach out to them to get an endorsement of the product baskets.

FDI Policy, Clinical Trial Approvals, Compulsive licensing & the slowdown in the number of new product launches, regulatory challenges, the hostile economic environment in India, Drug Prices Control Order (DPCO) 2013 of lowering the prices of 348 essential drugs are some of the biggest challenges & worries for the leading Indian pharma companies seem to indicate that the lack of interest in staying in business leading to the wider concentration on reaching out to the doctors.

"There is widespread report of an unholy nexus between the doctors & the pharma companies in cementing commercial deals are distressing & is increasing rapidly in India despite MCI guidelines. Give & Take seem to be the order of the day resulting in the erosion of ethics in medical profession. It is widely believed that pharma companies & doctors are engaged in dubious commercial transactions as pharma companies feel that doctors have multiple options available to endorse the products in regular product basket unless the pharma company has something new to offer which compel the doctors to prescribe. This is the focal point at the Summit as we attempt to bring face to face with the drug companies & doctors in the single platform said" Satya Brahma

Pharmaleaders believe that though the entire scenario is not the same as doctors & pharma companies know that it is only the research driven products & efficacy in drugs are key but the large portion of the market need to increase the interaction on strong medical values & ethics in profession. Entering in its 6th Year, the much anticipated & awaited prestigious title is attempting to revisit the current state of medical profession & the pressure of building brands & most importantly, maintaining the sustainable growth record in an era where Government's policy making machine making a difficult task to the thinking process & the strategies to retain market dominance. Noted Healthcare Industry Experts and Medical Professionals to Receive Pharmaleaders 2013 Power Brand Awards
Incredible Pharmaleaders 2013, Billion Dreams - Pushing India's Growth Agenda - is the theme at the historic edition of the the 6th Annual Pharmaceutical Leadership Summit & Pharmaleaders Business Leadership Awards 2013

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Thursday, December 26, 2013 -- (Business Wire India) -- In an era where Healthcare in India is the most neglected as Politicians & Policy Makers are busy scoring their political points, Pharmaleaders attempt to raise the uncomfortable questions ignored by other media houses as we believe that healthcare is key to the nation development & India cannot be a mute spectator where policy reforms in healthcare has taken a backstage over political issues. "We need reforms. We don't need false promises. The nation needs affordable medicines with quality care & not empty & unreasonable claims. India needs enough doctors, working public healthcare centres, nurses & a robust policy, not just unrealistic & populist measures. We are sick of this", said Satya Brahma, Chairman & Editor-In-Chief Pharmaleaders.

Pharmaleaders believe that while the industry today is at the loggerheads with the Government & various statutory authorities including the regulators such as the Drug Administration, Market watchdog SEBI & host of other organizations, there is a lack of meaningful dialogue & interaction between the Industry & the Government leading to the bigger uncertainty of the overseas players coming to India with the basket of products & investments in the absence of a weak law & virtual policy paralysis. The issue of Pricing is the biggest factor leading to the discontentment of the Pharma Companies. The unavailability of medicines seen across the country is the major challenge as well the declining research & drug discovery, Clinical trials are seen as major deterrents". The Pharmaleaders platform therefore attempts to build these crucial gap of trust deficit & infuse the sense of confidence of the country's drug makers, policy makers & the government. Pharmaleaders is an independent Media that aims to ventilate the views of the common man through its magazine & digital version. Pharmaleaders is India's first opinion based & research driven Healthcare Communication media & has a decade of relentless reporting in Pharma Journalism in an unbiased, fearless & independent way. Over the last one decade, Pharmaleaders has covered some of the biggest voices in healthcare Industry.

Announcing the Nomination categories of Pharmaleaders Business Leadership Awards 2013, Satya Brahma, Chairman & Editor-In-Chief of Pharmaleaders said " Pharmaleaders attempt is to bring out the best of the companies & Individuals who have been performing under tough conditions following global economic slowdown, pricing policy of the drugs, regulators strict vigilance & host of other healthcare issues, while every care is taken to include the best companies based on their performances, Pharmaleaders do not make a fixed set of rules as per ranking, big or small in size & revenues, it is innovations & trendsetting, that are the mantras of selection.

Incredible Pharmaleaders 2013 - " Pushing India's Growth Agenda-" is the theme at the historic edition of the 6th Annual Pharmaceutical Leadership Summit & Pharmaleaders Business Leadership Awards 2013. Entering in its 6th Year, the much anticipated & awaited prestigious title is attempting to revisit the current state of affairs & the pressure of building brands & most importantly, maintaining the sustainable growth record in an era where Government's policy making machine making a difficult task to the thinking process & the strategies to retain market dominance.

As Pharmaleaders is discussing today the key issues that is grappling the industry, both domestic & international markets have been witnessing a change of approach. The Price war, US FDA Vigilance, FDI & Generics are the key drivers that will determine the winning combinations. Indian Pharmaceutical rather Healthcare landscape has drastically changed paving the way for fresh & challenging pressures to the Pharmaleaders. The incredible journey of the Pharmaleaders, though marked by many ups & downs, the global healthcare industry are certainly not ignoring the meteoric rise of Indian Pharmaleaders. Pharmaleaders believe that the real Challenges of the Pharmaleaders in the present context are multi-dimensional, though the bigger issues grappling the minds of the leaders are increasing pressure from regulators, FDI, Clinical Trials & of course the Pricing!

Originally launched in 1999 as the Pharma Business & Technology Excellence Awards, The Excellence Awards were first produced for the first time in India by the PHARMA BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY MAGAZINE as a means of honoring innovation in pharmaceutical marketing, corporate governance and research and development & Lifetime Achievements category. Pharma Excellence Awards were produced by PHARMA BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY MAGAZINE Awards in India and expanded to recognize global corporate citizenship and individual achievements. Over the last one decade, Pharmaceutical business leadership awards 2013 has been re-evaluated and recast to focus more on business -scientific accomplishments in the biotech industry with a significant thrust in academic pharmaceutical research.

These Nomination Categories has been highlighting the critical role of the private sector in stimulating sustainable economic growth and development. A detailed Analysis of career graph/History or notable achievement is looked at to get the final five names. Such as the financial management, decision making roles and business impact. business ethics, managing rapid growth, innovation , adapting to change, strategic partnerships, leadership roles, marketing strategies, corporate philanthropy to society.

The journey that Pharmaleaders undertook till date has been marked by many momentous, outstanding & long standing occasions. Each year we hosted the Pharmaleaders Program, We only meant to salute the visionary leaders, small or big in size or in financial numbers, we had a clear agenda that we are not going to follow the routine & stereo-type award nomination mechanism where there are only selected companies, personalities who are constantly in the limelight. Pharmaleaders broke the rule book & made an exception.

We looked at people who are working behind the scene & never wanted any media glare nor any publicity!. Our Research team took a gigantic task of uncovering the "unsung pharmaleaders" who has been spectacular in their own sphere be in Healthcare, Clinical Trials, Manufacturing, Marketing, etc.

Our quest of crowning the Pharmaleaders are twofold, those who imbibed innovation with risk taking abilities, to break the rule & make an exception, to show the world that they exist in their own world, in their own way, demonstrable leadership & critically acclaimed leadership. We were never tired, we continued to mix existing bigwigs with the companies & individuals relatively unknown & made them king. We looked at sheer passion, excitement & a sense of pride each time we crowned a Pharmaleader in the platform after a rigorous voting methodology. The Pharmaleaders has been tested & were thrown to the various stakeholders to vote before being crowned. We even stunned some big names when the unsung pharmaleaders were crowned against the mighty of bigwigs.

Pharmaleaders believed in the spark of innovation year after year, as we continued our quest for celebrating the ultimate pharmaleaders experience since 1999. We were the earliest media house to recognize the talents & created Pharmaleaders platform that were imitated by many & Pharmaleaders Awards became the trendsetters. We are happy today, when we notice the rise of companies in Healthcare to honour the achievers. In the early stage of our momentus journey, we recognized the veterans & legends who are now no more but our spirit of leadership are still reverberating in the reception of companies. Late Dr. Parvinder Singh of Ranbaxy who built India's first MNC, Dr. Anji Reddy of Dr. Reddy's Labs, Mr. Indravadan A. Modi of Cadila, Mr. Jagdish Saxena of Elder Pharmaceuticals or The former Drug Controller General of India (DCGI), Dr. M Venkateswarlu are the few notable names. The current thespian legendary Pharmaleaders who are responsible for building the India image like Dr. Yusuf K. Hamied of Cipla, Dr. Habil Khorakiwala of Wockhardt, Mr. Samprada Singh of Alkem Laboratories, Dr. D. B. Gupta of Lupin or Mr. Suresh Kare of Indoco Remedies are in the list of Pharmaleaders winners library. Pharmaleaders, has felicitated & recognized more than 500 companies & has created world-class platform in the form of Summit.

Escalating Need for Backup Power Fuels Indian Stationary Industrial Battery Market, Finds Frost & Sullivan
Cost, reliability and after-sales support are key competitive factors

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Thursday, December 26, 2013 -- (Business Wire India) -- The widening demand-supply gap in electricity is powering the stationary industrial battery (SIB) market in India. Delay in the setting up of new power plants due to land unavailability coupled with slow environmental clearances and fuel shortage has led to a surge in SIB installations in the country.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (http://www.powersupplies.frost.com), Analysis of the Indian Stationary Industrial Battery Market, finds that the market earned revenues of INR 115.64 billion in Indian financial year (FY) 2013 and estimates this to reach INR 160.43 billion in FY 2018. The market is dominated by lead acid batteries while other battery technologies (Lithium Ion, flow batteries) are in their early stage.

"The increasing requirement for backup batteries in critical equipment and processes is giving a boost to the SIB market," said Frost & Sullivan Energy and Environmental Analyst. "Demand for backup power is expected to further intensify with growth in IT/IT-enabled services and the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) network as well as automated teller machine development, rising automation across business enterprises, and burgeoning enterprise solutions."

The focus on renewable energy, especially solar, will drive the need for storage capacity, broadening the potential of the industrial battery market. However, improving awareness among Indian customers regarding alternative storage technologies such as flywheels, fuel cells and ultra capacitors may rein in SIB market potential.

The slowdown in Indian economy hindered investment flow in infrastructure, and various e-governance projects, thereby, affecting the SIB market. The uninterruptible power supply and telecom end-user segments, in particular, have witnessed a decrease in demand.

"Pricing pressures on participants will only increase as new players enter the market and existing suppliers expand operations and diversify product portfolios," noted the Analyst.

To succeed, SIB suppliers must maintain their cost advantage and try to gain market share by improving sales and services delivery, and investing in research and development. Emphasis on nickel-cadmium, lithium-ion, and flow batteries, in particular, will energize innovation in the Indian SIB market.

Apollo Hospitals Successfully Separates Pygopagus Conjoined Twins Ericana and Eluidi

Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, Thursday, December 26, 2013 -- (Business Wire India) -- A pair of male Pygopagus twins was successfully separated at the Apollo Speciality Hospitals in Vanagaram on December 16, 2013. Ericana and Eluidi are both declared stable.

Second significant milestone for Apollo Hospitals in its 30th year: World No. 1 in Solid Organ transplants. And now, 1st in India and South East Asia to successfully separate male Pygopagus twins.

In what can be considered a historical case attempted by an Indian Hospital, Apollo Speciality Hospitals in Vanagaram announced the successful separation of Pygopagus twins from Tanzania - Ericana & Eluidi. A marathon surgery of 18 hours conducted by a select team of 20 doctors from the specialties of neurosurgery, plastic surgery, paediatric surgery and paediatric urology was led by Dr. Venkata Sripathi, Senior Consultant Paediatric Urologist, Apollo Children's Hospital, Dr. Roshini Gopinathan and Dr. K S Sivakumar, Senior Consultant Plastic Surgeons, Apollo Children's Hospitals. The Surgery which began at 9:00 AM on December 16, 2013 concluded with the successful separation of the twin nine month old boys at 1:00 AM on December 17, 2013.

Born in a small village called 'Kasumulu' in Tanzania Ericana and Eluidi were referred to Apollo Hospital in Chennai through Apollo's Save a Child's Heart Initiative (SACHI) and have been under the expert care of skilled doctors at Apollo for five months now . Both babies who can now look forward to leading normal lives as two separate individuals are currently recuperating in the Intensive Care Unit at Apollo's Vanagaram facility. They have been stable and are showing signs of a promising and speedy recovery.

Commenting on the complex surgery Dr. Venkata Sripathi said "It took us about 13 hours to separate the twins, post which reconstruction took another 5 hours. The most challenging moments were the spinal separation without injury to the nerves of either baby, separation of the fused phallus without nerve and vessel injury, separation of the urinary bladder and urethra followed by reconstruction of the pelvic floor around the rectum and anus, providing skin cover. In all it took us about 18 hours."
Live born Pygopagus twins are usually female in sex and male Pygopagus twins are extremely rare. Till now in medical literature only 30 sets of Pygopagus twins have been reported out of which 26 were female and only four were male - making Eluidi and Ericana a very special fifth pair.

"As of now the babies are stable, but are under observation in the critical-care unit, and we are expecting that they will be fit enough to be shifted to the ward in another 5 - 7 days. Once the babies begin to feed and void well and are active, they will be discharged. They will be brought back 6 months from now for hypospadias repair and colostomies" added Dr. Sripathi.

Dr. Edward Kiely, Paediatric and Neonatal Surgeon and Dr. Richard Howard - Anaesthetist both from Great Ormond Street Hospital in London were present to proctor the Apollo team during the course of the surgery.

"In our 30 years, Apollo Hospitals has always been a pioneer in healthcare delivery and has continued to excel with world-class clinical outcomes. The case of Ericana and Eluidi was both unique and challenging. We are glad to have had the opportunity to give their strong-willed mother Grace a reason to be truly happy after nine months of agony and anticipation. We have once again demonstrated our prowess as a global destination for affordable yet world class healthcare." said Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Group of Hospitals.

Conjoined twins, though rarely encountered, are seen in one in 200,000 deliveries. However, more than 60% of them are stillborn while 35% of the remaining die within a few days or months of birth due to various causes. Conjoined twins can be joined at the chest, abdomen, back, buttock and head. Fusion at the buttocks (Pygopagus) is very rare and accounts for less than 17% of all conjoined twins.
