Catch HDFC Life School Quiz 2012 on ESPN Starting June 04
Special Olympic edition quiz conceptualized by ESPN STAR Sports' Event Management Group will see participation from schools across the country

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Wednesday, May 30, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- ESPN STAR Sports today announced that 'HDFC Life School Quiz 2012', a special quiz based on theme of Olympic Games, will be televised every week day starting June 04, 2012 on ESPN. The television rounds will see 72 two member teams vie for the title of 'India's Top Sports School Quiz Team'. These 72 teams were selected through a comprehensive written preliminary for students studying in Class VI to Class X which was held in the month of April in 23 cities across the country. ESPN STAR Sports presenter and commentator Alan Wilkins will host the quiz. This property has been conceptualized and implemented by the ESPN STAR Sports' Event Management Group (EMG).

The HDFC Life School Quiz 2012 will see maximum representation from Delhi NCR Region with as many as 10 teams out of 72 nationally coming from Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida region. Kolkata comes second with 8 teams making it to the TV rounds of the quiz while the state of Goa comes third with as many as 6 teams. 4 teams each have qualified from Dehradun, Trivandrum & Visakhapatnam. Mumbai, Kochi, Pune & Ahmedabad are being represented by 3 teams each. Bengaluru, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Chennai, Lucknow, Siliguri, Patna, Bhopal, Guwahati & Bhubaneswar have 2 teams each making it to the TV rounds of the quiz.

In this Olympic year, the Olympic edition of HDFC School Quiz 2012 is an important initiative by ESPN STAR Sports EMG Group to enthrall, entertain and educate sports fans across the country about the forthcoming block buster properties on the network. The quiz show will also have a special section wherein famous current and past Indian Olympians ask relevant questions to participating students. The televised broadcast of HDFC School Quiz 2012 precedes London Olympics 2012 which will also be showcased on ESPN STAR Sports.

Format of the quiz

A total of 72 teams, 18 teams from each zone, have qualified for the TV rounds.

Stage 1 of the television round - The Zonal Qualifier - will have 6 episodes in each zone and therefore 6 winners from each zone.

Stage 2 -The Zonal Finals - will have 8 episodes in all - 2 episodes in each zone therefore 2 winners from each zone; and best lucky loser amongst all zones. A total of 9 teams will qualify for stage 3.

Stage 3- The National Semifinals - will have 3 episodes therefore 3 winners.

Stage 4 -The National Final - best of the three final; features 3 winners of the previous round. Therefore the quiz will have 37 episodes in all with a possibility of the 38th (if the best of three final series goes all the way)
